Will Angelina Jolie's 'Unbroken' Be Faithless

Louis Zamperini is a real American Hero. He's also a hero of the Christian faith. His harrowing experiences as a WWII POW have been told in his own memoirs as well as several books, one by Laura Hildebrand entitled "Unbroken."  He has the distinction of having died twice. The first time, he was reported KIA during WWII. The second time was for real, this July 2, 2014. If he had died the first time, he would have spent eternity separated from God in Hell. Now he is in Heaven, because Louis came to believe in Christ several years after WWII at a Billy Graham crusade. His faith in Christ is what delivered him from the incredible trauma he suffered as a POW. It transformed his life.  Here's a video of an interview he did with Evangelist Greg Laurie before his death.

This December a movie about his life, 'Unbroken', will be released. It is being directed by Angelina Jolie. It was premiered in Sydney, Australia to great reviews. However, initial reports are that it radically downplays Louis' faith and focuses more on his torture and the strength of the human spirit. Initial audience reaction included shock at much of the graphic content.

Whether you see the movie or not will, of course, be your choice. I probably won't. I probably won't because of the R rated content, but more importantly I won't because it won't be a movie about the real story of Zamperini's life. The hope that he found was Jesus. Hollywood likes to downplay Jesus. I'd rather not pay for false hope.

If you want the real story, read the book Unbroken: A Word War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption.  or watch the full story told by Zamperini in a longer interview with Greg Laurie.
