Pastor and author, Erwin Lutzer wrote a book called Hitler’s Cross. In it he analyzed the Nazi Party’s plan for Germany and how the Christian church in Germany responded. Listen to this paragraph from the book,
Since
Germans had for centuries celebrated Christmas and Easter, Hitler had to
reinterpret their meaning. Christmas was turned into a totally pagan festival;
in fact, at least for the SS troops, its date was changed to December 21, the
date of the winter solstice. Carols
and Nativity plays were banned from the schools in 1938, and even the name
Christmas was changed to “Yuletide.” Crucifixes were eliminated from the
classrooms, and Easter was turned into a holiday that heralded the arrival of
spring. You will recognize the same changes taking place in America today.
As long as a one living, breathing
follower of Jesus Christ lives in this community or this nation, Jesus cannot
be taken out, legislated out, or driven out. You see, the only way Christ can be
taken out of Christmas or out of our society, is if we, those who follow
Christ, take Him out. No matter who worships what this Christmas, you can
worship Christ. Sing His praises, tell His story, share the joy you have found
because of Him. Let them do what they may, but as for you and your house,
glorify Jesus, the only begotten son of God, the Christ of Christmas.
